First up on the initial assessment list is Bioshock, a game which tries to answer the question of what you would get if you combined Ayn Rand with Captain Nemo and surrounded this new bizarre being with bored geneticists...no, really.

Andrew Ryan, eccentric billionaire philosopher of the 1950s, has created an underwater city-state, free of affiliation to any nation, called "Rapture", where the citizens are free to do anything that they want and pursue any activity towards the betterment of themselves and their own personal satisfaction. To help create his perfect libertarian society, Andrew Ryan also specifically introduced a community of the world's finest genetic researchers into Rapture to fund their experiments towards the advancement of humanity.

Yeah, I could have told him that was a bad idea.

I'm two hours in, and all I have to say right now...is that this game is fucking creepy. Being chased down a strobe-lit hallway by hysterically-laughing physically-deformed people brandishing knives, wrenches, and other sharp implements is a tad unsettling. And that's the least creepy part of the game.

The game environment is beautiful. Rapture is a beautiful city, torn to shreds by some terrible event (or events), and this duality of creation and destruction only increases the level or surreality.

I've only gotten the first two Plasmids, and I'm not sure how I feel about the concept yet; whether it is a cool gameplay feature or a silly gimmick. It is very fun, however, to electrocute people standing in a broken fountain.

At first glance, I can safely say that any who likes Half-Life and other story-telling FPS games will love Bioshock. The atmosphere has captured me, let's see how long the game can hold me.

Beginning Impression: Very Good

Next up: Halo 3
